A Sorrowful Journey by Randall L. Buchman $25

Throughout our entire lives we as Shawnees have had questions regarding our tribal history.  Many of us have felt a void because of the sparse information available.  Randy Buchman’s research fills a gaping portion of that void.  The details revealed in this recently discovered journal quench a thirst for knowledge. This book is a must read and a must own. Every Shawnee, every Seneca tribal member, every person interested in history should have this book. The focus is the removal of the Mixed Band (Seneca and Shawnee) from the Lewistown Reservation in Ohio following the 1830 Indian Removal Act. The insight is the documented occurrence and reoccurrence of the government’s lack of planning and inhumane treatment of the Indians in this first of many trail of tears.

-Glenna J. Wallace, Chief
Eastern Shawnee Tribe of Oklahoma

 Lucy’s Promise
Co-Authored by Myron Bok and Lucy Cotto-RiveraIn writing this book Myron Bok has had the advantage of the journals and conversations with Lucy Cotto. For the North American reader it puts a face on people we hear about in the media as “the under-privileged of the world” and rarely have insights into their daily life.  Given the ever-increasing international bonds of today’s economy, Lucy and Myron give us a view of the “way it was” as well as proof that bilingualism, communication and education can make the world better, one person at a time.–Lorraine L. Andrews
I’ve Served My Time In Hell
With The 1st Marine Division
A Memoir of Life in the Pacific in WWII
by Richard M. Small $25The catalyst for I’ve Served My Time in Hell was the discovery of letters to and from Richard Small’s parents written while he served with the 1st Marine Diviion in World War II. The letters evoked memories of his experiences in the Pacific and prompted him to write this memoir reflecting on his service with the Marine Corps and participation in battles on Cape Gloucester, Peleliu and Okinawa.
A Tasty Toast to Lou Joost
A collection of recipes
$15 Lou was so dedicated to get messages to members of the Defiance College community when they were not immediately available. My favorite is the incredible effort that Lou would make to find me so that my children would not have to wait to hear from me. Also, people enjoyed talking to her.  It was not unusual at all for one or two or more people standing around the switchboard just talking to Lou. She was a friend to all.–Don Kneuve, Associate Academic Dean and Professor of Criminal Justice
Making a Difference for 150 Years
A Pictorial History of Defiance College $5“Colleges do not grow by themselves; they are built by people who believe in them.”
